What's New For the 2021 Toyota Prius?

More performance, technology, and trim levels are all options for the 2021 Toyota Prius. This year, the Toyota Prius is now offered with a choice of infotainment display screens, ranging from the standard seven-inch screen at the base level to a larger 11.6-inch screen on the higher-end models. The 2021 Prius also offers an expanded line of trims to choose from with a newly-available 2020 Edition with blacked-out accents. All-wheel drive is an optional powertrain for some trims to improve the Prius's performance in all conditions.

2021 Prius Trims and Features

There are a total of five 2021 Prius trims. The first trim is the same base trim offered in 2020, which is called the L Eco. The L Eco comes with a variety of driver-assist safety aids. It also seats five people overall and has back-row seats that fold flat to accommodate over 50 cubic feet in storage capacity. LED lights and 15-inch wheels are standard. Technology includes a seven-inch display screen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa.

The second trim in the lineup is the LE. The LE gets more standard safety technology and an intelligent parking system. The third trim is the XLE, offering larger 17-inch alloy and titanium wheels that distinguish the XLE on the outside. Its interior features heated front seats that are eight-way adjustable for the driver and four-way adjustable for the front passenger. A smartphone charger is standard. The 2020 Edition is next with the same interior amenities and black trim accents, including black accents on the mirrors and wheels. Adaptive front lighting with auto-leveling, a larger 11.6-inch display, and a premium sound system are highlights of the Limited.

2021 Toyota Prius Horsepower

All trims of the 2021 Toyota Prius family have an identical powertrain. A 1.8-liter gasoline engine, connected to an electric motor for hybrid power, produces 121 horsepower. Mated to this hybrid engine is a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and a few options for a drivetrain. Front-wheel drive is standard on most trims, while there is an optional electronic all-wheel drive (AWD-e) on the LE and XLE.

Toyota Prius Safety

The Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard on all Toyota Prius trims with adaptive cruise control, forward collision avoidance, and lane-keep assist. Blind spot monitor and parking assist are safety features offered to higher-end trims. Safety Connect is another notable feature in the 2021 Prius, which includes emergency assistance, roadside assistance and automatic collision notification.
