For years, the Highlander has been a best-seller for Toyota and among SUVs in general. The Highlander does not need many changes to stay competitive, but nevertheless it gets them anyways. In fact, the Highlander gets a brand new look for the latest model year, complete with simultaneously edgier and more sophisticated styling around the outside. Along with its good looks, this all-star SUV also gets more convenience features such as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The Highlander also has class-leading fuel efficiency this year and improved off-road driving capabilities. With standout amenities like a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, this year's Highlander is just about as tech-savvy and luxurious as an SUV gets.
This year, the Toyota Highlander is offered in five trim levels. They start with the base trim called the L, which is followed by the LE, XLE, Limited, and Platinum. Cloth seats are standard on the first two trim levels. The L and LE also have standard seating for eight occupants. Staying plugged in and connected is easier than ever with five USB charging ports across the cabin. The infotainment system comes with a premium Entune sound system. Bluetooth is standard as well. Both back rows have split-folding seats that fold flat when you want more room for cargo and accessories. A backup camera is standard on the base trim. The LE gets more functional features such as an adjustable power liftgate and tri-zone climate control. A leather-trimmed steering wheel is standard.
The next trim gets even more conveniences with a push-button start and a smart key system. The first two rows get leather seats, too. A premium Entune sound system is standard. A tilt-slide sunroof is standard, as is a premium touchscreen with navigation. The Limited gets even more standard features such as blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and front seats that are heated and ventilated. Starting with this trim you'll also get a seven-passenger seating configuration with two captain's chairs replacing the bench-style layout in the second row. This trim gets larger 19-inch alloy wheels, too. The top trim level, called the Platinum, gets more amenities including heated seats in the second row. It also adds a panoramic sunroof and a larger 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen. Special embossed leather seats are standard on this trim. Various packages and accessories are available.
The 2020 Toyota Highlander is offered with either a gasoline or a hybrid engine. This year, the base four-cylinder gasoline engine on the Highlander has been replaced by a V6 engine that was previously only available. The now-standard engine produces up to 295 HP, which helps it tow up to 5,000 pounds. The engine comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The hybrid engine is another option. The hybrid engine has a 2.5L capacity and four cylinders.
Between the Toyota Safety Sense suite of driver-assist aids and the Star Safety System that provides vehicle stability control, all trim levels of the Highlander are specially designed to keep you safe. Forward collision warning, lane departure alert, and lane-keep assist are just the start of many Highlander safety aids.
