What's New for the 2018 Toyota RAV4?

Whether it's on a serious mission or a lark, the Toyota RAV4 crossover is designed to be on the move. The ample storage and high clearance that mark the compact SUV make getting around exceptionally easy. This constant forward motion extends to the RAV4's design updates, too. For 2018, the RAV4 has added a new trim, the Adventure, to its lineup. Additionally, buyers now have the option of Ruby Red Flare among the colors available in the RAV4 palette. The 2018 RAV4 also distinguishes itself with the new Cold Weather package that includes heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and a windshield wiper de-icer.

Audacious Trims & Features

Like the 2017 RAV4, this year's version offers the LE, SE, XLE, Platinum, and Limited editions along with hybrid versions of the SE, XLE, and Limited models. Unlike its predecessor, the new RAV4 welcomes the Adventure model. This latest member takes aim at off-road aficionados by offering a higher suspension, rocker panel guards, and 18-inch alloy wheels. It also supplies a 100-watt outlet in the cargo hatch. Among the other family members, the LE is recognized by features like power locks and windows, a 6.1-inch touchscreen control panel that doubles as a camera monitor, Bluetooth connectivity, and a USB port. The SE edition presents buyers with amenities from paddle shifters to LED headlights to a power driver's seat. The XLE heightens the level of luxury with a moonroof, automatic climate control, and heated and power front seats. The Limited edition builds on its sibling's achievements with a motorized back hatch, keyless starting, and a 7-inch touchscreen. Finally, the RAV4 Platinum edition goes the distance with a foot-activated liftgate and a surround camera as standard features.

Bold Horsepower

All RAV4s come with a 2.5 liter 4-cylinder engine capable of manufacturing 176 horsepower that's more than adequate for anything the RAV4 is designed to tackle. It even serves as the base in the RAV4 hybrid models where it's teamed with a 50 kW electric motor for a total output of 194 horsepower. Also found under the hood of all gas-only RAV4s is a 6-speed automatic transmission that provides commuters with 23 mpg city and 30 mpg* highway. Equipped with all-wheel drive, the 2018 standard RAV4 delivers 22 mpg city and 28 mpg* highway. Using an electric booster motor on the rear axle, the hybrid RAV4 increases traction along with fuel savings, the RAV4 hybrid reaches 34 mpg city and 30 mpg* highway.

A Commitment to Safety

Toyota has long possessed an attractive safety record in general. The 2018 RAV4 handily maintains this legacy with a top rank of Good from the IIHS in nearly all crash test categories and a 5-star overall rating from the NHTSA. The 2018 RAV4 commitment to protection begins with antilock brakes, airbags, traction and stability control, rearview camera, tire pressure monitoring, and hill-start assist on every model. It then goes the extra mile by outfitting all models with the Toyota Safety Sense package. With this package, drivers are alerted to possible frontal impacts with both vehicles and pedestrians. This includes the ability of the vehicle itself to apply the brakes when needed. The package also provides lane keeping technology along with adaptive cruise control. Extra choices include an overhead surround camera, rear cross-traffic alert, and blind spot monitoring.
