How to Disable Toyota Auto Start/Stop?

Toyota Driver Driving

The auto start/stop feature on select Toyota vehicles is an innovative feature that lets you run more efficiently. It works by stopping your engine while your vehicle is stopped, and it starts things up when you're ready to hit the gas. It's effective at reducing waste related to engine idling, and many drivers enjoy its benefits. In the situation where you don't want auto start/stop to be active, disabling the system is simple.

To the left of your steering wheel, you'll see an "Off" button. Simply press that button at any point after you've turned on the engine to disable the auto start/stop feature. This will let you keep your engine on, even during long red lights. You may want it to stay on so that you can maintain a cool climate by constantly running the air conditioner, or you may want your engine to continue to run because you need the power to haul a trailer.

Once you've pushed the "Off" button, the system will remain off for the duration of the ignition cycle. At any point, you can reactive it by pressing the button again. When you restart your vehicle, everything will go back to the default setting in which the auto start/stop feature is active.

Note that there are certain conditions in which the auto start/stop feature will not engage. This includes when you've set your air conditioner to MAX, you're on a very steep include, you've selected power or snow mode, your steering wheel is turned away from center, your battery only has a low charge, you're in stop-and-go traffic, or your fluids are at high temperatures.
